The 2007 Autodesk Visualization Design Competition

Theme: Thinking Green

Reduce Air Pollution!
  • Introduction
Burning coal is the cheapest way to produce energy. But it comes at a high price - it causes environmental and health problems due to atmospheric emissions. Sulfur dioxide (SO2) and nitrogen oxide (NOX) are the main emitters. They form acids in the air that will fall down as "acid rain". Acid rain kills forests and fish, damages buildings and even cars. The human health gets effected as well. Through formation of particulate matter the air gets polluted. This can cause asthma, bronchitis, heart attack, lung disease, respiratory allergies and premature death.

Thinking Green!

The use of technology to cut down power plant emission will keep us alive.

  • Storyboard
The animation starts with a close-up of a building, looking upwards into the sky. The camera moves away and opens up into a wide angle shot. You will see a coal-burning power plant within a dead environment - no grass, no trees, only gray smoke and smog. The background music is depressing and sad. Then something new comes into the scene - a giant robot is driving towards the power plant, coming from the right. It puts a filter on top of the smoking chimney. The emission stops. There is no air pollution anymore and all of a sudden the landscape gets brighter; trees and grass are growing again. The music changes into a happy tune and you hear birds singing.

Now the headline appears:
"Reduce Air Pollution!"
"Keep Our Earth Alive!"

The camera moves up and watches the scene from the sky. The letters follow the camera. The animation ends in a bird's eye view with a wide angle shot . You see the non-smoking power plant and the robot in the middle of green landscape. The headline floats on top of it and reminds you what to do.
